British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS)

The British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) was created in 1988 with the purpose of promoting education, training and research in cardiovascular intervention and to develop and uphold clinical and professional standards.

The British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) held its first meeting at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London in 1988 with the aim of establishing a regular meeting forum for those interested in interventional vascular procedures. (Prior to that the British Coronary Angioplasty Group (BCAG) formed by David Cumberland (Sheffield) had been holding meetings since the early 1980s. Facilitated case discussion was an important element of these meetings together with interaction with representatives from Industry and invited speakers. In 1987 David Cumberland as Chairman agreed that formal affiliation with the British Cardiac Society was appropriate and that the Group’s officers would in future be elected).

Purpose:
The Society promotes education, training and research in cardiovascular intervention and develops and upholds clinical and professional standards.
