The Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (AMOPS)

Chicago, Illinois, United States of America

Description:
The Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (AMOPS) was established in 1977 to serve and represent osteopathic physicians in the uniformed services. AMOPS focuses the attention of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) on the unique aspects of practice in the Uniformed Services by the more than 2,200 Doctors of Osteopathy meeting our nation's military and federal medical needs throughout the world. AMOPS' efforts have resulted in modifications to dues and Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements due to the nature of uniformed service.

AMOPS is the 13th largest divisional society in the osteopathic profession. DOs comprise approximately 10 percent of the physicians in the Armed Forces. AMOPS also represents the interests of former Medical Corps DOs who have retired or separated from the military, private practice physicians serving in the Guard or Reserve, osteopathic medical students in the Health Professions Scholarship Program and federally-employed physicians.

AMOPS also promotes the advancement of osteopathic principles in military/federal practice and institutions. AMOPS conducts an annual CME conference to support the maintenance of operational medicine for its members and coordinates its efforts with the other osteopathic divisional societies. As a direct result of our efforts, they have achieved lower AOA dues for military physicians on active duty, CME requirements adjusted for remote and overseas complications and relevant, quality CME opportunities at very reasonable prices.
