A pioneer in Latin America, SAGG was established on April 25 , 1951 in the city of Buenos Aires.

Its main objectives are:
• Tend to research and study the physiology, pathology and treatment of diseases of old age, the treatment and rehabilitation of diseases of old age. It will also deal with the biological, psychological and social aspects of it.
• Facilitate scientific discussions and publications of their works, non-profit.
• Create and promote intellectual and cultural links with other societies, universities and governmental organizations or not of the country and abroad, favoring scientific and cultural exchange on the matter.
• Create an atmosphere of cordiality and solidarity among its associates.
• Promote the improvement of all professionals who work in the area of ​​Gerontology and Geriatrics.

From its foundation, the Society began to spread knowledge and promote the formation of similar societies in the country and throughout the Latin American Region, in order to promote gerontological development.
