The Internal Oncology Working Group (AIO) is one of the largest scientific working groups within the German Cancer Society.
The AIO was founded in 1976 and today has more than 1,500 regular, associate and supporting members who work voluntarily in more than 20 working groups.
The AIO sees its most important tasks as conducting clinical trials and ensuring the quality of drug-based tumor therapy, as well as close collaboration across sectors and with neighboring clinical and basic disciplines to ensure the best possible interdisciplinary cooperation. Furthermore, the involvement of patient representatives in the planning and conduct of clinical trials and strengthening patient participation are important concerns of the AIO.
