The American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) is the official board certifying body of the American Association of Physician Specialists (AAPS), Inc.© The AAPS was founded in 1950 and is a national, not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of its member physicians. It is the first organization of its kind to accept qualified osteopathic physicians as well as allopathic physicians as members. Its two-fold mission is to provide a structured platform for various affiliated academies of medicine and to support the art and science of medicine by presenting the opportunity for qualified physicians to achieve board certification through the ABPS.
