American Association of Pediatric Urologists (AAPU)
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America
The American Association of Pediatric Urologists (AAPU) is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to promote pediatric urology practice and education as well as stimulate discussion and informational exchanges between practitioners involved in the treatment of genito-urinary disorders in children.
In the early 1980s, small regional groups of pediatric urologists began gathering for weekend meetings to discuss interesting cases, new techniques, and seek advice on challenging cases. The first group formed on the East Coast and was called "EPUS," followed by the Midwest group "MePUS," and then the West Coast group, originally named "WePUS," which later became "PRIAPUS." Around 1986, Mark Zaontz and David Roth had the idea to create a similar organization for younger pediatric urologists across the U.S., with a focus on longer, more social meetings that included families.
