OVERVIEW

Why You Should Not Use Ivermectin for COVID-19 (Pharmacist) is organized by Connect Educate Impact (CEI).

Release Date: September 9, 2021
Expiration Date: September 9, 2024

Description:
On August 21, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration tweeted - “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.” Ivermectin is an anthelmintic – used to destroy parasitic worms – yet, some individuals are using it off-label (and off-animal) to treat COVID-19. This interactive debate between an attorney and pharmacist reviews both the clinical and legal aspects of this situation.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
• Identify the clinical uses for ivermectin - both human and animal.
• Discuss the regulatory status of ivermectin for human and animal use in the United States.
• Describe the potential legal liability for dispensing ivermectin as prophylaxis or treatment of COVID-19, and the potential legal liability for declining to dispense ivermectin as prophylaxis or treatment of COVID-19.
• Explain the regulatory limits for off-label use of FDA-approved drug products to treat COVID-19
