Course Description :
Capsule endoscopy is used to assess occult bleeding of the GI tract. It is mainly used to visualize the small intestine, but capsules are available for esophageal and colon evaluations. This module describes capsule endoscopy, the indications and contraindications, and ways to prepare a patient for the procedure.
Goal and Learning Outcomes :
The goal of this capsule endoscopy continuing education program is to familiarize nurses with the risks, benefits, and therapeutic ramifications of capsule endoscopy as it relates to patients with suspected diseases of the small intestine. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Describe the role of capsule endoscopy in the diagnosis of diseases of the small intestine.
• List the indications and contraindications for performing a capsule endoscopy.
• Identify the educational needs of patients preparing to undergo capsule endoscopy.
