Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) Prophylaxis with Post-Transplant Cyclophosphamide: Ambushing T Cells is organized by Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) and will be held on Dec 06, 2018. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 CNE upon completion of the hour long webinar and submission of a post test and evaluation.
Conference Description :
Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a major complication following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and is the leading cause of non-relapse mortality in patients surviving more than two years. The additional immunosuppressive therapy to treat GVHD further increases the patient’s risk of developing life-threatening infections, organ toxicity, and disease relapse. Recent studies show that using high-dose cyclophosphamide early after HSCT does not compromise engraftment and can decrease the risk of acute and chronic GVHD. This presentation will review the history of GVHD prophylaxis and treatment, the pharmacology of the medications currently used, and then focus on the newest strategy to decrease GVHD using post-transplant cyclophosphamide.
Conference Objectives are :
• The learner will be able to review the history and pathology of graft versus host disease.
• The learner will be able to compare current prophylaxis therapy options for graft versus host disease.
• The learner will be able to discuss the pharmacology of immune suppressive agents.
• The learner will be able to discuss the history of haploidentical HSCT and emerging therapy with post-transplant cyclophosphamide.
The measurement of these outcomes will be evidenced by evaluations and post-testing.
