Description:
For more than a decade opioid painkillers have been prescribed despite mounting evidence that people were becoming addicted and overdosing on the powerful pain medications. By tapping into a database of opioid painkillers and other federally controlled substances dispensed in the state, physicians can check patients’ opioid medication history, as well as their use of other combinations of potentially harmful drugs, such as sedatives and muscle relaxants, to determine whether they are at risk of addiction or overdose death. In this course we will talk about the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), what you can do when you find abnormal findings on a PDMP, and how to address issues with those findings.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the activity, participants should be able to:
• Distinguish when to check the PDMP and exemptions to doing so
• Apply and address the Alerts in the PDMP, when they fire, and how to respond
• Demonstrate how to identify aberrant behavior present on the PDMP and address it appropriately

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
