Activity Description
This microlearning webinar will succinctly summarize the robust and multifaceted impact of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) on women’s health, including an expert-led exploration of key aspects of IDA clinical gravity in the OB/GYN setting. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) will be emphasized throughout. Heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy, and postpartum hemorrhage will be examined as leading IDA etiologies in women, and the differential clinical utility of oral iron and IV iron supplementation as IDA treatment strategies in each of these conditions will be evaluated.

Learning Objectives
After participating in the activity, learners should be better able to:
• Review the epidemiology, multifaceted pathophysiology, and common clinical manifestations of IDA in women’s health, highlighting dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB), pregnancy, and postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) as prominent etiologies.
• Discuss the deleterious implications of IDA on clinical endpoints and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in women’s health, including obstetrical morbidity/mortality, functional capacity, fatigue, and quality of life.
• Using an animated whiteboard, illustrate foundational pathophysiologic principles of DUB-associated IDA, including a characterization of how and why oral iron therapy is often ineffective and/or intolerable.
