OVERVIEW

Under Pressure: Cerebral Aneurysm is organized by Nurse.com - OnCourse Learning Corporation and will be held from Apr 25, 2018 - Apr 25, 2021. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.0 Contact Hours.

Course Description:
Each year, about 3 to 5 million people in the United States have cerebral aneurysms, most producing no symptoms, but about 0.5% to 3% of those people will experience aneurysmal rupture. Bleeding occurs when the aneurysm ruptures and blood leaks into the subarachnoid space (a space between the arachnoid membrane and pia mater that contains cerebrospinal fluid). This event, a subarachnoid hemorrhage, is associated with a 30% to 40% mortality rate. Those who are treated and survive have a 20% to 35% chance of experiencing moderate to severe brain damage. Caring for a patient with a ruptured cerebral aneurysm requires diligence. Life-threatening complications can occur at any point during the patient’s illness. Sharp assessment skills and quick response can make the difference. The American Stroke Association strongly encourages healthcare professionals to suspect a subarachnoid hemorrhage when patients present with an acute onset of a severe headache.

Conference Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education program is to educate nurses about the incidence, etiology, signs and symptoms, complications, treatment, and nursing care associated with cerebral aneurysm. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:

• List three risk factors associated with the formation of a cerebral aneurysm
• Identify four signs or symptoms of subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a ruptured cerebral aneurysm
• Describe two treatment options for patients with a cerebral aneurysm
