Unavoidable Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries in Critical/Progressive Care is organized by American Association of Critical - Care Nurses (AACN) and will be held during Dec 15, 2017 - Dec 31, 2019.

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC's) Commission on Accreditation, ANCC Provider Number 0012 (60 min contact hour). AACN has been approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the California State Board of Nursing, California Provider number CEP01036 for 1.2 contact hours (50 min contact hour).
Activity Summary :
Healthcare organizations strive to minimize harm and provide a safe environment. Despite technological advancements, hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) continue to occur. This raises the question whether HAPIs may be unavoidable. The purpose of this session is to describe the findings of a research study that examined the proportion of HAPIs among patients in ICU/PCU that were unavoidable and the risk factors among patients differentiating avoidable from unavoidable HAPIs.
Objectives :
• Define unavoidable and avoidable pressure injuries.
• Identify the proportion of HAPIs among patients in ICU/PCU that are unavoidable.
• Identify risk factors among patients that differentiate avoidable and unavoidable pressure injuries.
