Description
This course?will?equip HIV service providers at all levels of the HIV care?continuum with?information about?approaches to recognize?the widespread impact of trauma?and to?identify?the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, staff, and others involved in the system.  Part of the activity will also cover how to?integrate?knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices in order to actively resist?re-traumatization?and prevent vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to… 

  • Describe types of?trauma?and trauma’s effect on the brain
  • Discuss the impact of trauma on behavior and health outcomes?related to HIV
  • Describe how the six principles of trauma-informed care could lead to better client experiences?during?clinic?visits
  • Discuss individual and organizational protective factors that can prevent vicarious?trauma?in staff
