Release Date: January 21, 2020
Expiration Date: October 9, 2020

Accreditation:
Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is approved for 1.0 contact hour (0.1 CEU) under the ACPE universal activity number 0290-0000-19-228-H01-P. The activity is available for CE credit through October 9, 2020.

Activity Overview:
In 2017 alone, more than 60,000 people died from drug-related overdose deaths involving natural and semi-synthetic opioids, heroin, and synthetic opioids other than methadone, such as fentanyl and fentanyl derivatives. Treating opioid withdrawal and opioid use disorder remains challenging. Barriers such as insurance coverage and cost of medications are frequent and finding providers willing and able to prescribe medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is difficult. This activity will allow health care professionals to become familiar with current and recently approved treatment options in the armamentarium of withdrawal management to effectively transition patients to MAT. This webinar will provide valuable information on how to enhance the multidisciplinary approach to optimize therapeutic outcomes, improve patient understanding of treatment expectations, and minimize barriers that may contribute to relapse.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Examine the epidemiology and pathophysiology, as well as barriers to appropriate care for patients with opioid use disorder
• Personalize withdrawal symptom treatment based on patient-specific factors
• Optimize medication-assisted treatment based on patient preference and pharmacokinetics
• Identify best practices that support a multidisciplinary approach to care for treating opioid dependence
