OVERVIEW

The Role of the Radiologist and the Healthcare Team in Diagnosis and Management of Bronchiectasis is organized by National Jewish Health (NJH), healio.

Activity Release Date: November 27, 2024
Activity Expiration Date: November 27, 2025

Description:
Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBE) is a progressive pulmonary condition that leads to bronchial wall damage and irreversible bronchial dilatation, which can severely impact a patient’s quality of life. Early detection of NCFBE can facilitate the appropriate treatment, which can break the vicious cycle of infection and inflammation and prevent further damage to the lungs. Radiologists play a central role in identifying bronchiectasis, and while they may not be directly involved in treating NCFBE patients, their role in clinical decision-making is crucial. In this activity, an expert panel of radiologists and pulmonologists will address clinical features of NCFBE, the importance of HRCT imaging for an early diagnosis, current and emerging treatment options, and strategies to improve time to diagnosis and ultimately improve patient health outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the role of radiologic imaging, especially HRCT, in diagnosing NCFBE.
  • Recognize the radiologic features of NCFBE, including bronchial dilatation, lack of bronchial tapering, and thickening of the airways.
  • Evaluate current and emerging treatment options for patients with NCFBE and the role of early diagnosis.
  • Develop an interdisciplinary approach for effectively communicating radiological findings to other healthcare team members to ensure an accurate and early diagnosis of NCFBE.
