OVERVIEW

The Role of the Nurse Practitioner in Optimizing Insulin Therapy: Promoting Partnerships in Care is organized by Physicians Education Resource, LLC (PER) and will be held during Oct 26, 2017 - Oct 26, 2018.

The target audience for this medical event is Nurse Practitioners. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Overview :
This activity will bring nurse practitioners up-to-date on the latest available and emerging options in basal insulin therapy, especially biosimilar insulin. To help nurse practitioners address the unmet needs of patients in this area, expert faculty will discuss common barriers to the initiation of and adherence to insulin therapy, strategies to overcome these barriers, especially addressing financial considerations, as well as implementing DMSE/S algorithm of care for improved patient outcomes. A concluding discussion will present evidence-based strategies for integrating the latest in insulin formulations into an overall diabetes management program designed to improve glycemic control; reduce the risk of hypoglycemia; and make insulin therapy more convenient, manageable, and effective.

Conference Objectives :
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who may benefit from the addition of basal insulin to their management strategy
• Articulate the role of the nurse practitioner in implementing diabetes self-management education and support (DMSE/S) algorithm of care
• Evaluate the pharmacologic features of traditional and newer basal insulin formulations, especially biosimilar insulins
• Assess the evidence for biosimilar insulins with respect to clinical efficacy, safety, and tolerability • Describe how to implement a collaborative team-based approach to patient care for individuals with T2DM
• This activity is supported by an independent educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Lilly USA, LLC
