The Primary Care Playbook for Obesity: Evidence, Engagement, and Effective Management is designed for primary care physicians, physician associates, and nurse practitioners involved in the care of patients with obesity in the United States. This activity addresses persistent gaps in the diagnosis and long-term management of obesity, including inconsistent application of evidence-based criteria and underutilization of effective therapies. Participants will build skills in accurate identification and documentation of obesity, as well as the use of structured, person-first communication to support patient engagement. The program also focuses on selecting individualized, evidence-based treatment plans and implementing longitudinal management strategies that incorporate counseling, pharmacotherapy, and shared decision-making.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Apply evidence-based diagnostic criteria to accurately identify and document obesity in clinical practice
- Demonstrate use of structured, person-first communication strategies to initiate obesity discussions
- Select individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for patients with obesity
- Implement structured, longitudinal obesity management plans incorporating pharmacotherapy, counseling frequency recommendations, and shared decision-making strategies

MOC Statement:
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.0 MOC point in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. Participation information will be shared through the ACCME's Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS).
For Physicians requesting MOC credit, the post-test and evaluation are required in their entirety as well as your ABIM ID number, DOB (MM/DD), and a score of 70% or higher is needed to obtain MOC credit.
Notice to Diplomates: MLI will report any claimed MOC/Lifelong Learning points to the appropriate Board within 4 weeks of completing the activity. Please ensure that you have provided your Board ID number and MMDD of birth.

Nursing Continuing Professional Development:
Successful completion of this nursing continuing professional development activity will be awarded 1.0 contact hour and 0.5 contact hour in the area of pharmacology.
