OVERVIEW

The Pelvic Floor: Assessment, Function, and Treatment Strategies (CNE) is organized by Niel Asher Education.

The Pelvic Floor: Assessment, Function, and Treatment Strategies:
A nursing-focused course that translates pelvic floor assessment, function, communication, safety screening, referral, and treatment principles into respectful, scope-aware clinical practice.

Description:
This course helps nurses understand pelvic floor health as a whole-person clinical issue that may affect bladder function, bowel function, pelvic pain, sexual wellbeing, pelvic pressure, posture, movement confidence, postnatal recovery, work, relationships, sleep, and quality of life. Learners explore how pelvic floor symptoms may be connected to breath, core function, abdominal pressure, constipation, pain, trauma history, pregnancy or birth history, movement habits, and patient confidence.

The course does not aim to turn every nurse into a pelvic floor specialist or authorise internal assessment, manual therapy, or exercise prescription outside scope. Instead, it gives nurses a practical framework for opening sensitive conversations respectfully, recognising symptom patterns, screening for red flags, documenting clearly, supporting education within scope, and coordinating care with suitably qualified pelvic health, medical, continence, maternity, pain, mental health, or safeguarding services.

What You Will Learn:

Pelvic Floor Relevance:
Recognise how pelvic floor health may relate to bladder, bowel, pain, sexual wellbeing, pelvic pressure, postnatal recovery, movement, and quality of life.

Anatomy and Function:
Understand the pelvis, sacroiliac region, pelvic floor, breath, core coordination, abdominal pressure, posture, hips, spine, and whole-body biomechanics.

Communication and Safety:
Use permission, privacy, explanation, non-shaming language, consent, trauma-informed care, red-flag screening, and referral judgement.

Support and Care Coordination:
Apply scope-safe education around relaxation, coordination, strengthening principles, bowel and bladder support, lifestyle factors, documentation, and referral.

Course Pathway:
The learning pathway moves from pelvic health awareness into anatomy, function, sensitive communication, safety screening, education, referral, and case-based integration.

Recognise:
Notice bladder, bowel, pain, sexual, pressure, postnatal, movement, or confidence clues.

Ask Safely:
Use permission, privacy, explanation, non-shaming language, and patient choice.

Confirm Scope:
Clarify what is permitted by role, region, policy, training, and competence.

Support or Refer:
Use education, safety screening, referral, escalation, or coordinated care as appropriate.

Document:
Record symptoms, functional impact, red flags screened, consent, advice, referrals, and follow-up needs.

Important scope note:
Nursing scope varies by country, region, register, employer policy, job role, training, competence, consent requirements, supervision arrangements, and indemnity or insurance. Some nurses may be authorised to provide selected pelvic health education, screening, continence support, postnatal guidance, or exercise reinforcement in specific settings. Others may not. Learners must follow the requirements that apply to their own professional role and location.
