Highlights of the latest updates to the Obesity Algorithm® which is a clinical resource designed to help health care professionals both understand the complexity of the disease of obesity and implement effective, evidence-based treatment strategies with patients will be discussed along with clinical applications
Objectives:
• Provide overview of the 2017 Obesity Algorithm
• Discuss sentinel updates
• Discuss illustrative examples of clinical applications
• Describe how updates, authors, algorithm, obesity definition, people first language, office environment, genetics, cancer, obesity • paradox, body composition, and energy expenditure all apply to the clinical management of patients with obesity
• Describe concomitant medications, nutrition, transfats, diet patterns, physical exercise, motivational interviews, behavior therapy, technologies, GI hormones, newer bariatric technologies, micronutrients, minerals/trace elements, and microbiome apply to the clinical management of patients with obesity
• Apply diverse treatment strategies to patients with various obesity phenotypes
• Manage secondary causes of obesity
• Identify concomitant medication issues and individualizing treatment accordingly
• Describe nutrition, physical activity and psychological interventions for treating obesity
