Description :
The Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene is the most important genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Its main effects in AD appear to be due to its ability to influence amyloid-beta aggregation in the brain.
Learning Objectives :
After this session, participants will be better prepared to do the following in practice:
• Describe the alteration in risk for Alzheimer’s disease due to different APOE isoforms.
• Describe the direction in which as well as the mechanisms likely at play in regard to how different APOE isoforms influence amyloid-beta deposition.
• Describe the type of lipoprotein particle that APOE is present in within the central nervous system.
