Teleneuropsychology with Asian Clients: Working with Interpreters and/or Cultural Consultants is organized by California Psychological Association (CPA).
Start Date: 3/27/2024
End Date: 12/1/2024
Course Description:
Teleneuropsychology (TeleNP) presents a unique opportunity to increase access to culturally diverse patients, many of whom lack access to services from linguistically and culturally informed providers. For monolingual patients or those with limited English proficiency, the utilization of interpretation services is necessary to avoid communication errors and increase comprehension. Contemporaneous cultural consultation may also be necessary to enhance the clinician’s cultural skill set, particularly when it appears that cultural issues are likely to be of importance in understanding the patient and the patient’s condition, and/or when language and cultural issues appear likely to be of importance in interventions. This webinar will present the recommended guidelines for the utilization of interpreters and cultural consultation in TeleNP services.
After attending this Online Course, attendees will be able to:
• List at least 4 recommendations for conducting teleneuropsychology with interpreters.
• Identify at least 4 ways in which a neuropsychologist can demonstrate basic cultural competence in the provision of cross-cultural neuropsychological services.
• Identify at least 4 ways in which a cultural consultant can demonstrate specific cultural expertise in the provision of cross-cultural neuropsychological services.
