The target audience for this medical event is Aurora Health Care Primary Care providers and hospitalists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 20.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
This program, which uses leading edge information and research, is a comprehensive review of the many ways to communicate end of life options to patients and families at an emotionally charged time. Although this session may seem general, the interactive discussion in the classroom session of stage B will be focused on your discipline of medicine.
Upon completion, a provider will be capable of using skills and tools for end of life discussions and assigning them appropriate importance while saving time and energy and improving patient care The goal of this course is to improve your ability to communicate and provide palliative care.
Course Objectives:
• Enhance basic communication skills for end-of-life care, particularly delivering bad news.
• Develop strategies for working with patients who present challenging personality or cultural differences.
• Understand resources within the system that can assist the patient in making choices.
• Incorporate accepted standards of palliative care and evidence based decision-making into discussions and the practice of caring for dying patients and their families.
• Utilize specific resources available to assist with care of terminally ill patients.
