Course Description:
Athletes may acquire osteoarthritis at a higher rate than non-athletes. Many senior athletes continue to train and compete even though they may have a degenerative joint condition. This program begins with an in-depth review of anatomy, physiology of the upper extremity joints. The course describes the anatomical and physiological changes of osteoarthritis and the corresponding symptoms. This class details the mechanism of injury and the causation factors of osteoarthritis including overuse and traumatic injuries sources. The program progresses to thoroughly review the clinical evaluation of sports injuries to the upper extremities including consultation, examination and imaging. The class describes in-office chiropractic treatment and provides in-depth patient education and rehabilitation exercises. Nutritional and supplementation support of osteoarthritis to enhance and prolong athletic activity is covered.
