Severe and Refractory Gout: The Road to Resolution in Chronic Kidney Disease is organized by National Kidney Foundation (NKF).

Description:
This session will highlight the pathophysiology and genetics of gout to help elucidate why the disease may progress to the severe and refractory state.  A rheumatologist will then discuss how to apply the most recent evidence-based practice for diagnosing and treating severe and refractory gout.  The session will end with an opportunity for participants to ask questions and engage with the faculty.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the pathophysiology of gout, including genetics, and why gout may progress to the severe and refractory state
  • Apply best-practice diagnostic and management approaches for severe and refractory gout to achieve optimal outcomes in CKD

In support of improving patient care, the National Kidney Foundation is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The National Kidney Foundation designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.0 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

This knowledge-based enduring activity has been assigned Universal Activity Number, UAN JA0004461-0000-26-018-H01-P, for 1.0 contact hours (0.10 CEUs). To receive credit, learners must read the activity overview, learning objectives and faculty disclosures, complete the pre-test, review the content, complete the post-test with a minimum score of 70% (post-test may be taken up to 3 times) and electronic activity evaluation. 

Physician Assistant :
National Kidney Foundation has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until July 29, 2027. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, Dialysis Technician:
Awarded 1.0 contact hours of continuing nursing education (includes 0.5 contact hours in the area of pharmacology).

Dietitian:
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the National Kidney Foundation is approved to offer dietitian continuing education by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Dietitians completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credits.
