Part 1: Tooth Retention vs. Tooth Extraction and Implant Placement: Which Treatment is Best
• Identify factors to consider when determining whether to perform a root canal or to extract a tooth and place an implant or a fixed partial denture
• Discuss the long-term outcomes of periodontal treatment
• Compare the clinical survival rates of each treatment modality
• Compare root canal treatment and dental implants based on biologic factors, associated procedures required, cost, ethics, esthetics and psychosocial factors
Part 2: When Teeth are Retained Through Root Canal Treatment, What are the Most Critical Factors that Guide Successful Restoration
• Identify which endodontically treated teeth benefit from crowns
• Know what a post and core does and does not do
• Establish optimal post length and diameter
• Design an appropriate ferrule
• Describe the instrumentation that promotes success
• Summarize the benefits and limitations of new post materialss
