Description:
Immunizations are vital to the public health goal of preventing diseases that can cause significant death and disability. Vaccines can protect not only the person immunized but also those with whom they come into contact. The purpose of this course is to provide information on immunizations, including updated recommendations provided by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. The course begins with a background on current immunization practice and then presents information about general contraindications and precautions. An overview of immunizations for children, adolescents, adults, and special populations is presented, along with recent updates, including the influenza vaccine for 2018/2019.
 
Course Objectives:
• Describe how immunization works in the body.
• Identify and recognize the most up-to-date, authoritative sources for immunization recommendations.
• Identify and recognize the contraindications for specific vaccines.
• Select appropriate and current immunization recommendations for specific populations.
• Recommend disease prevention and healthful practices to patients.
