Description:
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a seasonal virus that affects people of all ages, often severely impacting infants, young children, and older adults. Though widespread, RSV is underdiagnosed in adults, particularly those with chronic conditions. Natural immunity is short-lived, making vaccination key to prevention. Most individuals are infected by 2 years of age, but protection fades, so timely vaccination—especially for high-risk groups—is essential. The Healthy People 2030 initiative aims to expand adult vaccine coverage. In this new activity from PeerView, experts discuss identifying adults who should receive the RSV vaccine, especially those at high risk; including the vaccine in care plans using current guidelines; and talking with patients in a respectful, understanding way to address concerns and encourage vaccination.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Identify appropriate candidates for RSV vaccination, particularly those at high risk for severe lower respiratory disease
Incorporate RSV vaccines into care plans, consistent with current evidence-based guideline recommendations
Engage patients in culturally sensitive, shared decision-making discussions about the risks associated with RSV infection to overcome barriers and vaccine hesitancy.
