Prevention CHKC: Course in HAI Knowledge and Control is organized by The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).

Description:
Prevention CHKC is designed to train frontline healthcare personnel, defined as those “responsible for direct patient care” in best practices to prevent and control HAIs and pathogens that can spread in the healthcare setting. Training educates frontline personnel to successfully execute best practices in topics that include:

• Prevention of CLABSI, CAUTI, SSI, VAP/VAE
• Prevention of C. difficile and MRSA
• Prevention strategies:
• Methods for appropriate performance and timing of hand hygiene in the healthcare setting
• Disinfection and environmental control

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Review best practices for the prevention of device-and pathogen-associated infections in hospitals, e.g. CLABSI, CAUTI, SSI, VAP/VAE, C. difficile, and MRSA, how to perform and promote hand hygiene, and how to • improve frontline personnel’s understanding of disinfection and sterilization as appropriate for their role(s)
• Demonstrate ways to perform basic HAI prevention strategies, plus advanced approaches for outbreak management
• Examine performance and accountability measures within the healthcare team to implement infection prevention practices

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America designates this enduring material for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
ABIM MOC:
Successful completion of this activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the Virginia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Successful Completion Statement:
Physicians (CME and ABIM MOC):
In order to receive Physician credit, participants must successfully complete both the post-tests with passing scores of 100% and the course evaluation. You will have unlimited opportunities to take the post-tests.
Nurses (CEU):
Nurses who complete this activity will be awarded a maximum of 6.75 nursing contact hours. In order to receive nursing credit, participants must successfully complete the post-tests with passing scores of 100%. Participants will be awarded continuing education commensurate with their completion. Nursing Contact Hours will be awarded for completion of this activity through March 29, 2024.
