Description:
This activity is a 1.5 hour presentation covering the basic concepts of bleed detection in joints and muscles using point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Statement of Need:
Musculoskeletal disease is common in hemophilia. Hemophilic arthropathy is a frequent and debilitating comorbidity. The clinical exam to diagnose and treat hemarthrosis, joint problems and musculoskeletal abnormalities is unreliable. There is an urgent medical need to teach MSKUS techniques to hemophilia providers for wide-spread use for diagnosis and management of hemophilic arthropathy.

Educational Objectives:
Following completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to
• Contrast ultrasound characteristics of intra-articular tissue and joint fluid or effusions.
• Describe the difference between simple (non-bloody) and complex (bloody effusions) in hemophilic joints.
• Visualize muscle bleeds and hematomas.
