Course Opens: 07/01/2023
Course Expires: 07/01/2026
Description:
It’s Life or Death! Do I get sued for not saving a life? And guess what, now I get sued for saving a life.
How do we know what the right choice is or what the patient truly wanted?
What if different family members have different views on the patient’s wishes?
As medical providers, we come across this all too often. So what do we tell patients…..”Get an Advance Directive”. While well intended, advance directives (ADs) are only part of the answer and often place patients and providers at risk of harm.
Did you know that AD’s are often incorrectly interpreted and more often than not do not align with patient wishes?
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize the limitations of current advance care planning approaches.
2. Develop an understanding of how to have discussions with patients around advance care planning.
3. Develop an understanding of how to document discussions with patients around advance care planning.
4. Use emerging technologies (e.g. MIDEO) to assist in the delivery of advance care planning.
