Description:
Patients have the right to have their pain treated, but that does not mean they have a right to opiates. This presentation offers a wide-ranging review of both narcotic and non-narcotic pain treatments with the mindset that opioids should be used only as a last resort.

Category: Opioid Education, Prescribing, Primary Care

Objectives:
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Describe the problems associated with drug diversion, misuse, addiction, and overdose deaths.
• Identify steps in regular practice to mitigate the risks of opioid prescribing.
• Maximize non-narcotic treatments of pain with both pharmacological and non-pharmacological options.
