Overview:
This course prepares healthcare providers to deliver holistic, compassionate care during perinatal loss.

Goals and Learning Outcomes:
This course prepares nurses, providers, and social workers in acute care to deliver holistic, compassionate care during perinatal loss. After completing this course, learners will be able to identify definitions and risk factors associated with perinatal loss, recognize appropriate interventions, and describe key bereavement guidelines for providing compassionate care.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize key types and causes of perinatal loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death, and associated modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors.
  • Recall appropriate medical and nursing interventions based on the type and timing of perinatal loss, patient preferences, and clinical status.
  • Identify evidence-based bereavement care strategies that promote compassionate, individualized, and culturally sensitive support for patients and families.
