Description:
The purpose of the Pediatric Acute Clinical Education Sessions (PACES) is to share pediatric clinical guidelines with clinicians caring for pediatric patients at community hospitals and external affiliate sites on topics such as asthma, bronchiolitis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and sepsis. A UC Davis Children’s Hospital physician will provide an overview of the selected pediatric clinical guidelines, and participants from community hospitals will be invited to present a case for group discussion.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

Implement evidence-based and expert consensus guidelines for pediatric and inpatient care.
Determine which pediatric patients may receive care at their local hospital and indications for transfer to a pediatric referral center.
Improve competence in using clinical prediction rules for identifying children at extremely low risk for clinically important traumatic brain injury.
Improve performance in a decreased number of unnecessary head CTs ordered for children with minor blunt head trauma and use of shared decision-making with parents of children in intermediate-risk groups.
Improve patient outcomes with decreased radiation exposure in children and improve parent satisfaction with shared decision-making in intermediate-risk groups.
