Paving a Path to Relief of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Chronic Idiopathic Constipation: Live Patient Simulations Demonstrating Innovations in Diagnosis and Treatment is organized by Paradigm Medical Communications, LLC and will be held from Oct 31, 2018 - Oct 31, 2019.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of gastroenterology and primary care clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioners and PAs). It may also be of benefit to gynecologists, pharmacists, and other clinicians who are interested and actively engaged in the management of patients with IBS and CIC.

Statement of Need:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) are among the most commonly seen gastrointestinal disorders worldwide, and the personal impact on patients is substantial. IBS-C and IBS-D comprise a considerable proportion of the overall IBS population. Over-testing patients to diagnose either of these IBS subtypes, or CIC, to exclude other diseases is a persistent problem that is inconsistent with evidence-based guidelines and contributes to patients’ suffering, frustration, and dissatisfaction with care. Post-diagnosis, optimal management is controversial, and outcomes are variable.

In addition, opportunities to improve outcomes with effective patient communication strategies are often missed. Through a carefully balanced presentation, two national-level experts in IBS and CIC management will present the latest evidence, guidelines, and patient-clinician communications strategies at key decision points using interactive case-based simulations presenting physician-patient scenarios.

Learning Objectives:
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Identify symptoms and pathophysiologic traits suggesting irritable bowel syndrome or chronic idiopathic constipation.
• Select appropriate, individualized therapy for managing irritable bowel syndrome or chronic idiopathic constipation, based on current clinical data as well as patients’ disease characteristics, needs, and preferences.
• Identify practical recommendations and resources for optimizing patient-clinician interactions and providing patient education and counseling for coping with irritable bowel syndrome subtypes or chronic idiopathic constipation and their treatment.
