Patient Safety Highlights - (SPA) American College of Surgeons Optimal Resources in Children’s Surgical Care: What it Means for Anesthesiologists Who Care for Children is organized by American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and will be held during Nov 18, 2015 - Nov 17, 2018.

The target audience for this medical event is Anesthesiologists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
This panel will provide evidence for the need for specialized children’s surgical centers, describe guidelines that have been developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Surgeon to optimize the pediatric perioperative environment, and present the primary components of the American College of Surgeons verification program of children’s surgical centers and the experience gleaned from the initial site visits. Pediatric surgeon, Keith Oldham, the leader of this initiative will describe the history of this initiative and the plans for the future.

Conference Objectives are :
• List the current evidence for improved outcomes after surgery when children are cared for in specialized pediatric surgery centers;
• Review the up-to-date guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Surgeons outlining optimal resources for the pediatric perioperative environment;
• Describe the history of the American College of Surgeons verification programs for specialized surgical programs and the development of a verification program for children’s surgical centers.
