Patient Safety Highlights : Harm Prevention in Critical Care: A Transprofessional Journey is organized by American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and will be held during Feb 27, 2017 - Feb 26, 2020.
The target audience for this medical event is Anesthesiologists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
The intensive care unit (ICU) is a high-risk environment, with patients susceptible to multiple hospital acquired conditions or harms. In the past several years, progress has been made in reducing individual harms such as catheter-associated bloodstream infection (CABSI) and ventilator-associated harms (VAH) by focusing intently on the individual harm. Rather than relying on new technologies, these harm reductions have come from improved processes of care and teamwork. At the same time, we have come to recognize harm to patients in the form of failure to treat patients with respect and dignity, and failure to align the wishes of patients and families with providers. This presentation will discuss the above harms, along with an innovative approach to simultaneously prevent multiple harms in ICU patients, utilizing a trans-professional approach, new technology and engaging patients and families in their own care.
Conference Objectives are :
• List the common preventable harms that occur in critically ill patients;
• Describe the importance of patient and family engagement in critical care;
• Identify the tenets of design thinking and their application to care improvement.
