Patient Safety Highlights - Controversies and Best Practices in Central Line Insertion is organized by American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and will be held during Feb 27, 2017 - Feb 26, 2020.

Course Description:
This refresher course will review the evolving epidemiology of central line use in perioperative and critical care, describe advantages and drawbacks to recent technical advances in line insertion and changes in clinical practice, review recent ASA guidelines on central line insertion and discuss their criticisms and identify known and emerging high-risk complications of central line placement.
Conference Objectives are :
• Examine the effectiveness of interventions for reducing wrong patient, wrong site surgery and wrong site invasive clinical procedures such as regional blocks;
• Identify three uses for barcodes in the in the operating room and determine whether the use of barcoding is applicable in the ambulatory setting;
• Assess the current literature supporting and contesting the utility of automated medication dispensing systems in the operating room;
• Review practices to reduce the risk of medication errors in the ambulatory setting.
