Overview:
The second in a series of 12 monthly webinars designed to support the implementation of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in primary care. As California's primary care (PC) clinics work to integrate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) into services, they will encounter questions around legal regulations governing privacy of patient records. What is 42 CFR Part 2? What does it mean & how does it apply to PC? Can certain PC program design elements allow unified medical charting by not activating this regulation? How can you recruit patients w/out “putting yourself out?” This webinar is an introduction to these issues (without giving any formal legal advice).

Learning Objectives:
• Recognize the 2 elements of a program that need to be present to activate 42 CFR Part 2 (Federal laws regulating confidentiality of medical records of substance use diagnosis & treatment);
• mplement program design elements of MAT services in PC to address legal issues of patient confidentiality; 
• Apply legal rules to address patient confidenialoity;
• Understand when they can release patient medical records without written consent in the case of a medical emergency or suspected child abuse if they work in a program that activates 42 CFR part 2.
