Overview:
The pain management and opioid drug crisis render challenges to several health care professionals. This module will present valuable knowledge on pain pharmacotherapy practices.

Objectives:
Outcome Statement: Participants will be able to distinguish between opioid habituation, dependence, addiction & use disorder with barriers that influence dispensing opioid medication and employing non-opioid medications in long-term pain management patients.

As a result of this activity, learners should be better able to:

• Describe and differentiate between habituation, dependence, addiction, and opioid use disorder.
• Evoke the mechanism of action and multiple clinical uses for buprenorphine/naloxone and methadone.
• Express insurance barriers in the dispensing process of opioid medications and the impact to patient care.
• Assess the appropriateness of employing non-opioid analgesics for long-term pain management.
