Educational Overview:
Hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) continue to be associated with high morbidity and mortality despite ongoing prevention efforts. Compounding the challenges of treating HABP/VABP is the high prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria that increases the severity of these infections. Optimal patient outcomes depend on timely administration of appropriate antimicrobial therapy. This continuing education program is designed to build competence, confidence, and skills within critical care teams in the management of HABP/VABP.
