Description:
A culturally adapted intervention refers to the modification of evidence-based treatments that may include changes to the approach to service delivery, the nature of the therapeutic relationship, or the components of the treatment itself in order to be compatible with the cultural beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors of the patients/clients.  The cultural adaptations of the OHDC are based on culturally sensitive frameworks, along with an Afrocentric paradigm.
This self-paced online course will prepare mental health clinicians to successfully apply the "Oh Happy Day" group counseling intervention, designed for African American adults experiencing major depressive disorder (MDD). The course is based on the "Oh Happy Day" facilitator manual which includes 13 modules focused on various areas to provide information to increase knowledge of depression, and learn healthier coping behaviors, aimed at reducing symptoms of depression and improving emotional wellbeing.

• Module 9: Forgiveness
• Module 10: Depression and Pleasant (enjoyable) Activities
• Module 11: Maintaining Gains & Developing a Life Plan
• Module 12: Wrap Up and Review
• Module 13: 3-Month Follow Up and Booster Session

Learning Objectives:
As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will:

• Apply culturally adapted treatments that involve the use of modifications to evidence-based treatments such as changes to service delivery, the nature of the therapeutic relationship, or the components of the treatment.
• Explain the importance of providing culturally competent care to African American clients/patients with major depressive disorder.
• Develop the self-efficacy skills to deliver a culturally adapted depression intervention – Oh Happy Day Class- to their African American clients/patients
