Obesity is an epidemic that has serious adverse effects on patients seen by cardiologists. The educational program “Obesity as a Cardiovascular Risk Factor: Assessment and Management” will inform cardiologists about the effects of obesity on CVD, HF, and dysrhythmias and the benefit of weight loss, the efficacy and safety of agents FDA-approved to manage obesity and provide guidelines for starting and intensifying obesity treatment through shared decision making with patients.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this education, participants should be able to:
• Characterize the physiologic effects of obesity and its comorbidities on the cardiovascular system
• Discuss the cardiovascular advantages of managing obesity
• Describe the efficacy and safety data for agents approved for the management of obesity and those in late-stage development
• Develop evidence-based personalized management plans for obesity in concert with the patient using shared decision making
