Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the U.S. On average, an estimated 2,200 Americans die of CVD every day, an average of one death every 40 seconds. Accurate and swift diagnosis of CVD is crucial for improved patient outcomes. Patient care in many settings may include cardiac procedures as part of a thorough patient evaluation. Healthcare professionals should understand a variety of cardiac tests and the rationale behind them to reduce patients’ anxiety about procedures and improve patient adherence. Several common noninvasive cardiac tests, including the ECG, exercise stress test, pharmacological stress test, nuclear scans, CT calcium scan, CT angiography and cardiac MRI will be discussed.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The purpose of this program is to contribute to nurses’ and physical therapists’ understanding of a variety of cardiac tests, thus promoting patient education, reducing patient anxiety, and improving patient adherence.
