Activity Description:
Every year the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves a number of new drugs for use. In some cases, these new agents represent significant advancements over older, more established treatments. In other instances, however, marketing practices by pharmaceutical companies result in the widespread use of some new drugs over less costly, commonly used agents with similar risks and benefits to patients. This seminar will review some recently approved drugs with an emphasis on their pharmacology, clinical efficacy, adverse effects, drug interactions, and monitoring requirements. Attendees will learn practical information about the new drugs presented, which in turn, they can use in their interactions with prescribers and in the care and counseling of their patients.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
• Discuss the basic pharmacology of new drug entities approved during the calendar year 2021 & how the pharmacologic actions relate to therapeutic and adverse effects.
• Discuss clinically significant adverse effects, drug interactions, and dosing/monitoring of these drugs as appropriate.
• Discuss the therapeutic role of the new drugs and their potential place in therapy.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
