Course Overview:
Taking a deep breath is harder for many than we might think. Today, clinical hypoxia is common and becoming a greater issue. This presentation will review costal anatomy and function in the role of breathing and give perspective on what chiropractors can do to improve rib function in our clinical practices.

Learning Objectives:
• Illustrate the anatomy and physiology of breathing
• Explain relevant facts surrounding breathing and gas exchange
• Apply critical analysis to technique and exercises that improve breathing
• Develop and implement patient education strategies

• The relationships of rib function and breathing
- Neuroanatomy of breathing
- Primary and secondary respiratory musculature
- The importance of breaths/minute
• Clinical burden of hypoxia
- What is hypoxia and how is it measured
- Tissue perfusion/gas exchange/rates
• Improving rib function
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Incentive spirometry
- Daily exercises for better health and breathing
