Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.
 
Session Description: Dr. McPherson focuses on neonatal cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. Examine the challenges of assessing and treating hypoperfusion in the preterm infant. Compare medications used to treat patent ductus arteriosus in the newborn, and discuss the pharmacologic options for treating persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn. 

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:
• Discuss the pharmacologic options for the treatment of neonatal hypoperfusion. 
• Identify the risks and benefits of available agents to pharmacologically close a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus.
• Describe pharmacologic options for the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn and define a treatment algorithm based on available evidence.

• Attend/view at least 90% of the session
