Several technologies have emerged for the assessment of the microbiome that includes bacterial, fungal, and shotgun metagenomics. In addition to DNA based assessments, there are now methods available to measure metatranscriptomics.

Educational Objectives:
After completing this activity, participants will able to:
• Compare and contrast the different approaches to assessing the microbiome
• Evaluate the reasons for why one methodology may be chosen how this affects the clinical correlation to the microbiome
