Looking Beyond Lipids: A Visual Guide to Targeting Vascular Inflammation in Atherosclerosis is organized by Penn State Hershey College of Medicine - Continuing Education, Medical Learning Institute, Inc. (MLI), PeerView Institute for Medical Education (PVI) and will be held from Dec 12, 2018 - Dec 11, 2019.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of cardiologists, nurses, and other clinicians involved in the management of cardiovascular disease.
Providership, Credit, and Support
The Penn State College of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Activity Description and Educational Objectives
In this activity, based on a recent live symposium held in Chicago, Illinois, cardiovascular disease experts discuss the relationship between inflammation and the development of atherosclerosis, the efficacy and safety of current and emerging therapy targeting inflammation for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, and the application of recommendations for the use of inflammatory biomarkers to assess cardiovascular risk. The expert panel also provides guidance on data surrounding anti-inflammatory agents and their potential placement within treatment plans for patients with cardiovascular disease.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify the relationship between inflammation and the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease (CVD)
• Implement consensus recommendations for the use of inflammatory biomarkers to assess CVD risk
• Assess the benefits and limitations of statin therapy, including the anti-inflammatory properties for secondary prevention of CVD risk
• Recognize the efficacy and safety of current and emerging therapy targeting inflammation for the secondary prevention of CVD risk
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
