The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology designates this enduring material for a maximum of 12.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The USCAP is approved by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) to offer Self-Assessment credits (SAMs) for the purpose of meeting the ABP requirements for Continuous Certification (CC). Registrants must take and pass the post-test in order to claim SAMs credit. Physicians can earn a maximum of 12 SAM credit hours.
Description:
Clinical and imaging advances in the management of patients with liver disease have significantly altered the scope of disorders encountered by pathologists, shifting biopsy assessment of fibrosis stage among patients with chronic viral hepatitis or steatosis to unraveling complicated medical issues, hepatic effects of polypharmacy/targeted therapies or tumors of unclear etiology. This course prepares pathologists to evaluate these situations in contemporary practice.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:
• Learn how therapeutically-useful information can be extracted from cellular samples and small biopsies utilizing cytomorphological, molecular and genetic techniques
• Enhance communication and empathy at the pathologist-patient interface
• Explore difficult areas of cytopathologic diagnosis in pancreas, kidney, lung, bone and soft tissue
• Become comfortable with molecular diagnostics applied to needle biopsies
• Understand the role of FNA biopsy in the evolution of empathetic patient-centered care
• Develop methods of practice improvement and quality improvement
• Discover that cytopathology is a community of diagnosticians dedicated to improvement of patient outcomes through specialized expertise
